You will get access to all your programs and documents open. It will take a bit longer to resume but not as long as it needs to start after proper shutdown. The time needed will depend on the speed of your hard drive if you are having a speedy solid-state drive and it should be pretty quick.

How to Put Your Computer to Sleep or Hibernate?
